Pet Loss & Euthanasia Resources by State

What's available for pet euthanasia, hospice care, and grief support varies a lot by state — availability of at-home vets, cost of living, and local shelter/rescue networks all differ. This page is a starting point for each state below, not an exhaustive local directory yet.

California Texas Florida New York Pennsylvania Illinois Ohio Georgia North Carolina Michigan New Jersey Virginia

California

A large, spread-out state where at-home euthanasia networks (including multi-city providers like Lap of Love) generally cover most major metro areas, though rural coverage varies. Cremation and burial options are widely available in and around Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and Sacramento.

Texas

Given the state's size, at-home euthanasia availability concentrates around Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio, with fewer options in rural areas — worth calling ahead to confirm your specific location is covered.

Florida

Strong coverage in the Miami, Tampa, and Orlando metro areas for both at-home and clinic euthanasia services, plus a wide range of cremation providers given the state's large population of retirees with pets.

New York

New York City has dense access to 24-hour emergency vet clinics and hospice/euthanasia services; upstate coverage is more limited, so it's worth checking availability specifically for your county.

Pennsylvania

Philadelphia and Pittsburgh both have well-established veterinary hospice and at-home euthanasia options; more rural parts of the state may need to rely on a regular vet clinic instead of a dedicated in-home provider.

Illinois

Chicago and its suburbs have strong access to specialty and hospice veterinary care; downstate Illinois coverage is thinner, similar to other large Midwestern states.

Ohio

Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati each have multiple at-home euthanasia and hospice providers; it's a relatively well-served state for a mid-sized population base.

Georgia

Atlanta has a growing number of dedicated at-home euthanasia and pet hospice providers; the rest of the state depends more on regular vet clinics offering the service directly.

North Carolina

Charlotte and the Raleigh-Durham area both have established options; coastal and western/mountain regions may have fewer dedicated at-home providers.

Michigan

Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Ann Arbor all have hospice and at-home euthanasia providers; the Upper Peninsula and more rural areas typically rely on local vet clinics.

New Jersey

Being densely populated and close to both New York City and Philadelphia, most of New Jersey has good access to specialty and at-home veterinary hospice care.

Virginia

Northern Virginia (near D.C.) has strong access to at-home euthanasia providers; the rest of the state varies more, with some rural counties relying solely on local vet clinics.
